Although in the past few years, machine vision has undergone some revolutionary changes, the color image processing field is still at a relatively slow rate of development, one of the main reasons is the color to solve a machine vision problem always take more costs and processing ability than an equivalent grayscale image solution. However, this situation has changed in recent years.  With the machine vision being used in the semiconductor, pharmaceutical, textile and other industries, ordinary grayscale visual system has been unable to meet with the needs of users. In some applications, it is necessary to use a color machine vision functions,such as color pattern matching, chromatographic analysis, the detection of color printing, packaging recognition functions etc.

Cognex Corp. has also introduced In-Sight Micro product series with three types color vision system, where the new In-Sight 1403C is a two million pixels (with a resolution of 1600 × 1200) of the system, being able to check a variety of color with high-resolution applications.
 
Color Vision System has always been the ADLINK development direction, but in the view ADLINK, color application is applied only in color application for the proper occasion, while grayscale vision system does not exist superior or inferior difference, just to see whihch one is better. In 3D mode, Ranger C can collect about 30,000 images per second, each picture contains 1536 high-quality three-dimensional coordinates, equivalent to 45 million 3D points per second.
